Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Danbatta Division of Kano State, have arrested a 20 year old suspected electricity cable vandal and recovered four bags containing aluminium conductor cables allegedly stolen from electricity infrastructure.
The suspect, identified as Jamilu Inusa from Kauyen Mudu in Danbatta Local Government Area, was arrested at about 4:15am on Friday, October 2, 2026, while NSCDC personnel were conducting a patrol based on credible intelligence.
The Kano State Command Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
According to the statement, Inusa was intercepted while driving a white Volkswagen Golf Wagon with registration number KMC 656 ZJ. A subsequent investigation and search led the operatives to a compound in Danbatta, where four bags containing aluminium electricity conductor cables were recovered.
The recovered materials were identified as bare stranded aluminium conductors, including ACSR and AAC types, commonly used on 33KV, 11KV and low voltage electricity distribution networks. The NSCDC said the vehicle was allegedly used to transport the vandalised materials.
The Corps described the theft and destruction of electricity infrastructure and other critical national assets as a serious threat to public safety, economic activities and national development.
The Command also disclosed that two other prime suspects linked to the alleged operation were still at large, assuring that efforts were underway to track them down and bring them to justice.
The NSCDC said the suspect would face appropriate legal action upon completion of the investigation, in line with existing laws.
The Kano State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, commended the Danbatta Division operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and prompt response to intelligence, while urging residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to help prevent vandalism and safeguard critical national infrastructure.
