Police operatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have arrested six suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly involved in theft, vandalism and other unlawful activities around the Wuye area of Abuja.
The suspects were arrested following a complaint lodged at the Wuye Police Division on September 17, 2026, by Mr Clement Agbeta, owner of Green Life Garden located opposite Arab Contractors Company in Wuye.
According to the complaint, the suspects allegedly trespassed into the garden, destroyed flower vases and plants, and carted away several plastic flower pots.
The complainant further alleged that the group vandalised a billboard within the area and stole iron rods, five bags of cement and about 60 dozen empty cement bags.Police investigations identified the suspects as Sylvester Isaiah, Abubakar Yakubu, Moses Luck, Abdulsalam, Mordecai Ebebe and Abdulkadri Sadiq, while another suspect, Rabiu Yunusa, was identified as an alleged receiver of stolen items.
Preliminary findings by investigators indicated that some members of the group allegedly conspired to rob unsuspecting residents and engage in acts of vandalism beneath the Wuye pedestrian bridge, where the suspects were reportedly residing.
During the operation, police recovered several items believed to be linked to the suspects, including two pieces of jewellery and a small toolbox allegedly used for vandalism activities.
Authorities estimated the value of the stolen and damaged property at over ₦14 million.Security sources disclosed that all six suspects were apprehended and are currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of their activities and possible involvement in other criminal incidents within the area.
Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to recover additional stolen property and identify other accomplices who may be connected to the criminal network.The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
