By Samuel Ike, Abuja

A suspected firearms fabricator has been arrested in the Dinyavo area along Special Side in Jalingo, Taraba State, following a joint operation by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) of the Nigeria Police Force and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).

The suspect was apprehended on Sunday during a targeted operation carried out at his residence.

Sources familiar with the operation disclosed that security operatives recovered several firearms, as well as tools and materials suspected to have been used in the fabrication of weapons.

The recovered items have been taken into custody by security authorities as part of ongoing investigations aimed at determining the extent of the suspect’s activities and possible links to criminal networks.

Following his arrest, the suspect was initially detained at the Jalingo Divisional Police Headquarters before being transferred on Monday to the Taraba State Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo for further investigation.

Security sources said the case has been placed before the Acting Commissioner of Police in the state, who is expected to review the findings of the investigation and direct further legal action.

The arrest is being viewed as a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and strengthen security across the state.

Authorities have assured residents that investigations are continuing and that all persons connected to the alleged illegal firearms operation will be identified and brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The operation also underscores the growing collaboration between the Police and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in tackling security threats and maintaining public safety in Taraba State.
