The Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing fire safety, emergency preparedness and the protection of critical national assets across Customs formations nationwide.

The collaboration was sealed through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, August 27, 2026, at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Abuja during an official working visit by the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Olumode Samuel Adeyemi.

The agreement provides a comprehensive framework for the establishment of fire stations and the deployment of modern fire safety measures in Customs facilities across the country. The initiative is designed to strengthen emergency response capabilities, reduce fire-related risks and safeguard personnel, infrastructure and operational assets vital to national economic and security interests.

Speaking at the event, Controller-General Adeyemi described the partnership as a landmark step towards institutionalising proactive fire prevention and ensuring rapid response to emergencies within Customs commands and formations nationwide. He noted that effective fire safety management remains an indispensable component of operational efficiency and public safety.

The Federal Fire Service boss further emphasised that the collaboration reflects the commitment of both agencies to promoting a culture of safety, resilience and preparedness in government establishments. He stressed that preventive measures and strategic partnerships remain the most effective tools for reducing fire incidents and mitigating their impact.

Adeyemi also urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as public and private institutions, to prioritise fire safety by embracing best practices and working closely with the Federal Fire Service to protect lives, property and critical infrastructure. He reaffirmed the Service’s readiness to support organisations across the country in building safer and more resilient working environments.
