The Commissioner of Police in charge of election security in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo, has cautioned political actors against making inflammatory remarks or engaging in actions capable of inciting violence ahead of Saturday’s governorship election. He urged politicians and their supporters to conduct themselves responsibly to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

The warning follows the invitation extended to the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Fadahunsi, over alleged comments directed at members of the Accord Party during a political gathering in Ilesa. In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command stressed the need for restraint among political leaders during the sensitive pre-election period.

Etaifo stated that public office holders and political stakeholders have a responsibility to promote peace and avoid statements that could heighten tension or undermine public confidence in the security arrangements put in place for the election. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to neutrality, professionalism, and the protection of democratic values throughout the electoral process.

The police commissioner explained that the invitation extended to Senator Fadahunsi was intended to obtain clarification on the alleged remarks and prevent any escalation of political tension. He emphasized that the action should not be interpreted as intimidation but as a proactive measure aimed at preserving peace, security, and the credibility of the election.

Etaifo further called on political parties, candidates, supporters, and residents of the state to remain law-abiding and channel grievances through lawful and democratic means. He assured the public that security agencies would remain vigilant and impartial in ensuring a peaceful, free, fair, and credible governorship election across Osun State.
