The Ondo State Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, to strengthen food security and safeguard agricultural investments across the state through the deployment of the Corps’ Agro Rangers Unit.
The framework for the collaboration, including the composition and operational responsibilities of a joint task force, was discussed during a courtesy visit by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Engr. ‘Leye Akinola, accompanied by members of his management team, to the Ondo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
During the meeting, Commandant Ibiloye reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting the Ondo State Government’s efforts to secure farms, agricultural facilities, and agro-allied businesses. He assured the Commissioner that the NSCDC would provide the necessary security support to protect critical agricultural assets and promote a conducive environment for food production.
The Commandant stressed the need for strict compliance with existing laws governing activities within forest reserves and other agricultural resources. He noted that consultants and stakeholders engaged by the government in the management of forest reserves must operate within the provisions of the law to ensure sustainable resource management and prevent abuses.
Speaking earlier, Engr. Akinola highlighted several initiatives being implemented by the Ministry to improve agricultural security and productivity. These include the introduction of forest and polygon mapping systems, as well as the provision of real-time geographical coordinates of farmlands to the NSCDC to facilitate prompt security interventions whenever threats arise.
He explained that the deployment of technology-driven solutions would enhance surveillance, improve coordination among relevant agencies, and strengthen the protection of farmers and agricultural investments throughout the state.
Both parties expressed confidence that the partnership would significantly improve security within farming communities, curb threats to agricultural activities, and create a more secure environment for food production and agribusiness development.
The collaboration is expected to boost the protection of agricultural assets, strengthen rapid response mechanisms, encourage sustainable management of natural resources, and contribute meaningfully to food security, economic growth, and rural development in Ondo State.
