VGN Honours Armed Forces Radio Journalist for Excellence in Security ReportingWriting


The Commander General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Navy Captain Umar A.B. Bakori (Rtd), represented by the Assistant Commander General (ACG) in charge of Intelligence at the National Headquarters, Mr. Seyi Araromi, alongside other senior officers from the National Headquarters, on Sunday presented an Award of Recognition for Outstanding Performance in Journalism and the Promotion of Grassroots Security to Mr. John Datur of Armed Forces Radio, Abuja.
The award was presented on June 22, 2026, at the premises of Armed Forces Radio, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja, in recognition of Mr. Datur’s commitment to professional journalism and his consistent support for security awareness initiatives across the country.
Speaking during the presentation, ACG Seyi Araromi commended the award recipient for his dedication to objective reporting and his role in projecting security-related activities that contribute to public enlightenment and national development. He noted that the media remains a critical partner in strengthening security consciousness among citizens and promoting collaboration between security agencies and communities.
According to him, Armed Forces Radio has continued to play a strategic role in disseminating information that enhances public understanding of security issues, while journalists such as John Datur have distinguished themselves through professionalism, integrity, and a passion for nation-building.
In his response, Mr. Datur expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria for the recognition, describing the award as an encouragement to continue serving the nation through responsible journalism. He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting accurate, balanced, and development-oriented reporting in support of national peace and security.
The event was attended by officers of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, representatives of Armed Forces Radio, and other invited guests who applauded the growing partnership between the media and security stakeholders in advancing grassroots security and public safety across Nigeria.
