The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects and the killing of two others during a rescue operation linked to the abduction of Busola Adegoke John-Paul, sister of former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, and her twin children in Ibadan.
The operation, which took place on Saturday night in the Ayegun area of Oluyole Local Government Area, also led to the recovery of firearms, including a pump-action gun. The raid reportedly lasted several hours as security operatives tracked the suspects to a hideout.
According to the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Oluwagbemiga Abimbola, the operation was executed following credible intelligence that led officers to the location where the victims were being held.
He explained that the abductees were discovered in a three-bedroom bungalow where they had been kept since their abduction. He added that the prompt response of the police was instrumental in the successful rescue of the victims.
A gun battle reportedly ensued during the operation, resulting in the death of two suspects, while four others were apprehended alive. Some suspects, however, managed to escape with injuries sustained from gunfire.
The rescued victims had earlier been abducted in the early hours of Wednesday in the Elewura-Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area after armed men intercepted their vehicle along the route.
Police authorities assured that efforts were ongoing to track down fleeing members of the gang and bring all those involved in the crime to justice.
