NSCDC Ondo Command Arrests Seven Over Illegal Explosives Blasting in Akure


The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested seven suspects for allegedly engaging in illegal blasting activities involving explosives in Akure.
The arrest was made as part of the Command’s sustained efforts to curb criminal activities and enforce compliance with mining and explosives regulations across the state.
According to a statement issued on 21 May 2026, the operation was carried out under the leadership of Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye. Operatives of the Command’s Mines and Steel Unit, working in collaboration with officials of the Federal Ministry of Mines led by Engr. Mayowa Omoseebi, apprehended the suspects at the Agbogbo area along the Ilesa–Akure–Owo Expressway in Akure following credible intelligence.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in unauthorized blasting operations using explosives without the required permits and approvals, contrary to extant mining and explosives laws.
The suspects were identified as:
Ifaronuwo Gboyega, 47, from Osun State
Adesina Kayode, 32, from Ondo State
Oluwasusi Ayomidele, 32, from Ekiti State
Durojaye Temitope, 43, from Ekiti State
Abayomi Oke, 28, from Ekiti State
Sakariyau Olawole, 29, from Ondo State
Sikiru Kazeem, 39, from Ondo State
The Command noted that the successful operation highlights the strong collaboration between the NSCDC and key stakeholders in the mining sector in Ondo State. It added that the partnership has continued to strengthen intelligence gathering and facilitate swift responses to security threats and illegal mining activities.
The NSCDC Ondo State Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and pledged to sustain collaboration with sister security agencies in tackling illegal mining, unlawful blasting operations, and other related crimes across the state.
