The Commander-General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Navy Captain A. B. Umar Bakori (retd), has expressed support for the Federal Government’s directive mandating private and voluntary security organisations to wear name tags on their uniforms.
Bakori stated that the directive would enhance credibility and strengthen collaboration with formal security agencies in promoting peace and security nationwide.
Speaking in an interview, he emphasised the importance of proper identification, noting that individuals impersonating security personnel often commit crimes under the guise of legitimate organisations. He said the enforcement of name tags would help curb such practices.
The Commander-General added that the measure would gradually expose impostors, ensuring that only verified personnel operate within the sector and contribute effectively to national security.
He further assured that the VGN under his leadership would fully comply with the directive, adding that the organisation would continue to uphold professionalism and discipline. According to him, adherence to the policy would enhance the group’s reputation and promote unity among its members as a recognised voluntary security outfit supporting the protection of lives and property across the country.
