In a decisive move to turn the tide against insurgency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has greenlit the procurement of advanced military hardware and logistical assets. The approval aims to provide Nigerian security forces with the technical edge necessary to dismantle terrorist networks and bandit groups operating across the country. Following a high-level security briefing at the State House in Abuja, the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), confirmed that the President is committed to equipping the military for total victory.
“The President has promised additional equipment to safeguard the nation. We are confident that these resources will lead us to success,” Gen. Musa stated.
The meeting served as a comprehensive review of ongoing operations, particularly in the Northeast. Addressing the recent spike in hostilities in Borno State, the Defence Minister framed the conflict as a prolonged war with fluctuating intensity. He noted that security forces have already recalibrated their field strategies to counter the shifting methods of insurgents. In recent days, government forces have successfully reclaimed strategic locations and eliminated several high-ranking terrorist commanders. The Minister also highlighted that extremist groups often escalate violence during religious periods, driven by a distorted ideology that associates suicide missions with spiritual rewards.
Gen. Musa addressed the uncomplimentary portrayal of recent military engagements on social media, urging the public to look past misinformation. He emphasized that while the military has suffered the regrettable loss of brave personnel, the casualties inflicted upon the insurgents have been far more devastating. Key attendees at the briefing included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, DG-DSS Oluwatosin Ajayi, CDS Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Chiefs of Army, Navy, and Air Staff, DG-NIA Mohammed Mohammed, and IGP Tunji Disu.
The Minister concluded by urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support of the armed forces. He reassured the nation that the inter-agency collaboration between the military, police, and intelligence services is stronger than ever. “We are on track,” Gen. Musa insisted. “Our appeal to Nigerians is to remain encouraged. The security forces are here to ensure that Nigeria remains safe and secure.”
