The Bauchi State Police Command has deployed a large number of security personnel and advanced weaponry to troubled communities in a renewed effort to curb banditry and maintain law and order.
The Command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday. He explained that the decision followed a resurgence of security threats in Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri, all located in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
According to him, the operation involves joint efforts by the police, the military, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies. He noted that the collaborative operation, with support from the Bauchi State Government, is already producing positive results.
Habib said the deployment followed a comprehensive security assessment of the affected areas. “In recent days, there has been renewed security concerns in Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri. After a thorough review, the Command, in collaboration with sister agencies, initiated a massive joint deployment to suppress the activities of criminal elements,” he stated.
He added that the border communities have long experienced security challenges due to the infiltration of criminals from neighbouring states.
The police spokesperson, however, reassured residents of Mansur town—many of whom reportedly fled over fears of possible attacks—that the situation remains under control. He emphasised that despite incidents in neighbouring Gwana District, Mansur has not been affected and there is no cause for alarm.
Habib further confirmed that security operatives have been strategically positioned to prevent any breakdown of law and order, assuring residents that efforts to restore and sustain peace would continue.
The Command also assured residents of Alkaleri Local Government Area that there will be no safe haven for bandits, stressing that operations will be sustained for as long as necessary.
He revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, underscored the importance of community cooperation in addressing insecurity. Residents were urged to promptly share credible intelligence and report suspicious movements or unfamiliar individuals within their communities.
Habib added that all information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality and encouraged citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear, taking advantage of the enhanced security presence.
