The Commander General of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Dr. Joshua Osatimehin, has directed officers and men across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory to complement the efforts of formal security agencies. This move aims to prevent violence or any breach of public peace before, during, and after this Saturday’s FCT Area Council Election.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Dr. Osatimehin explained that the directive aligns with the NFSS’s core objective: assisting sister agencies—including the Military, Police, and Civil Defence in maintaining law and order.
Emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility, the Commander General urged FCT residents to report any unlawful behavior to the authorities to ensure a hitch-free electoral process. He further noted that NFSS personnel have undergone specialized training regarding their conduct during the polls to ensure they support, rather than jeopardize, the process.
Dr. Osatimehin also took the opportunity to caution youths against being manipulated by selfish or unpatriotic politicians to incite trouble. He called on political parties and candidates to sensitize their supporters on the importance of peaceful conduct.
In his closing remarks, the NFSS chief stressed that candidates must contribute their quota toward a successful election and urged them to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship to foster the continued progress and development of the FCT.
