The Zonal Controller of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Zone C, Bauchi Zonal Headquarters, CF Saleh Usman Yakmut, has directed all Commands within the Zone to intensify operational preparedness and public awareness campaigns during the festive season. The directive is aimed at mitigating the increased risk of fire outbreaks associated with the dry harmattan weather and heightened domestic activities.
The Zonal Controller warned that the extensive use of electrical decorations, fireworks, and cooking appliances during the period significantly increases the likelihood of fire incidents. He therefore advised members of the public to handle fireworks and decorative lighting with caution, avoid overloading electrical sockets, and ensure that cooking activities are properly supervised, noting that unattended cooking remains a major cause of domestic fires during festive celebrations.
The directive was contained in a statement issued by the Zonal Public Relations Officer, ASF I Umar Jamil Lawal. CF Yakmut further commended the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, CGF Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, for his visionary leadership and proactive public enlightenment initiatives, which have continued to enhance the Service’s capacity toward building a fire-resilient Nigeria.
He reaffirmed the commitment of all Commands under Zone C to maintaining swift emergency response and sustained public sensitisation throughout the festive season and beyond, in line with the Service’s mandate to protect lives and property.
