FRSC prosecutes 300 traffic offenders in Ondo

The Ondo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps on Thursday disclosed that it had prosecuted, in its mobile court, no fewer than 300 persons who had committed various traffic offences.

The FRSC Ondo Unit Commander, Assistant Corporal Commander Ayoola Salauden, disclosed this during the mobile court session in Ondo town, where some traffic offenders were prosecuted.

According to him, the mobile court programme was one of the ways of ensuring that the FRSC reduced the high rate of crashes along the Ondo-Ore Expressway and Nigeria in general.

He explained, “Accomplishing drastic reduction in road traffic crashes and injuries was a shared responsibility. So far, this is the second time the programme is coming up this year, we have prosecuted about 300. The last one we had was 150 offenders and hopefully today (Thursday). Our target is 150 offenders in order to reduce crashes along the Ondo-Ore Road and particularly in Ondo State, to the barest minimum.”

On what constituted the effectiveness of the mobile court,  Salauden said it was one of the best strategies to adopt for the reduction of crashes on the roads.

“The mobile court is the high standard way of enforcement on traffic offenders. That is why we are out today,” the commander noted.

Also speaking, the Head of Operations of the sector command, Mr Joseph Ajayi, said the mobile court system was effective due to the number of offenders arrested and made to face prosecution.

“The programme today is a success going by the class of offences that we have which included overloading and failure to fix speed limit violation. In recent times, most of the accidents that we witnessed, were on speed, and they involved commercial vehicles that failed to install speed limit devices, coupled with overloading. So, these are the targets. We can say we have achieved the success of it. The offences are overloading violations, and failure to fix speed limit devices on their vehicles.
