The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has been widely applauded for the Corps’ outstanding achievements in the fight against illegal mining and the protection of critical national assets.
This recognition came during a high-level National Stakeholders and Civil Society Summit held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, which brought together top government functionaries, civil society actors, and security operatives to deliberate on key national security threats such as terrorism, oil theft, banditry, illegal mining, and human rights abuses.

Delivering the Commandant General’s keynote address on the theme:
“The Role of Community Leaders and Civil Society Organisations in Tackling Illegal Mining in Nigeria,”
was the Commander of the NSCDC Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant Attah John Onoja, who represented Prof. Audi at the event.
He emphasized that the battle against illegal mining cannot be fought by security agencies in isolation. Rather, it requires active involvement from community leaders, civil society groups, and the general public through grassroots intelligence and local partnerships.
