NAF Commissions Solar Streetlights and Water Infrastructure in Anipupo Community, Ogun State

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has brought new hope to the Anipupo Community in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State with the inauguration of key infrastructure projects aimed at improving living conditions and enhancing civil-military cooperation. Commissioned on 26 August 2025, the Special Intervention/Quick Impact Project features the installation of 30 solar-powered streetlights, an industrial borehole, and a 35,000-litre water storage facility.

The initiative, undertaken in honour of Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Timothy Marquis, reflects the NAF’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Civil-Military Relations (CMR) through impactful non-kinetic operations. These projects are intended not only to improve daily life for local residents but also to foster trust, collaboration, and intelligence-sharing—essential elements for maintaining national security.

Representing the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, at the commissioning ceremony, Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, highlighted the significance of the intervention. He described it as a testament to the NAF’s resolve to support national development in alignment with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Beyond our military duties, we have a mandate to uplift communities, build trust, and win hearts and minds,” said Air Marshal Abubakar. “Projects such as this, which provide clean water and lighting, not only enhance quality of life but also deepen the relationship between the Nigerian Air Force and the citizens we are sworn to protect.”

In his remarks, AVM Abidemi Timothy Marquis, a native of Anipupo Community, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of the NAF for the transformative gesture. He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility, urging community members to take ownership of the infrastructure and ensure its maintenance and sustainability. “This project is more than a one-time intervention—it is a foundation for enduring progress,” he noted.

Also speaking at the event, the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, commended the NAF for what he described as a “model of impactful partnership.” He praised the Air Force for its proactive approach to community engagement and for honouring AVM Marquis through meaningful development.

“The provision of an industrial borehole, water storage, and solar-powered streetlights exemplifies the type of partnership that can significantly uplift our communities,” Governor Abiodun stated. “This initiative aligns seamlessly with our administration’s grassroots development strategy, aimed at fostering sustainable growth and improving the quality of life across Ogun State.”

The governor also recognized AVM Marquis’s contributions to national service and his commitment to the wellbeing of his hometown. He called on residents to use the new facilities responsibly and cooperate with security agencies to preserve peace and order in the region.

The event was well-attended by community leaders, stakeholders, and residents, reinforcing the NAF’s broader role in national development beyond its traditional military duties.
