10-DAY SCORE SHEET OF CP SALMAN DOGO GARBA, KANO STATE POLICE COMMISSIONER BY SP ABDULLAHI HARUNA KIYAWA, KANO POLICE PPRO

In line with the directives, vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Command after putting all machinery in place towards addressing the scourge of thuggery (Daba) and other violent criminal activities in the State, conducted strategic clearance operations between 24th June to 4th July, 2024. Therefore, this Press Briefing is aimed at shedding light on the unrelenting efforts and the progress made in tackling criminal activities and to reassure the public of the Command’s commitment to effectively addressing all emerging security challenges in the State. 

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me stress that the re-emergence of these criminal activities is a matter of great concern for the Kano State Police Command, which the Command is fully committed to combating the ugly trend head-on. 

Let me emphasize on the zero-tolerance stance of the Police Command towards criminal activities particularly thuggery (Daba) which have not only posed a threat to the security and safety of the affected communities where lives and properties were lost and caused injuries to innocent citizens, but also affecting the overall development of the State. Consequently, the crime pattern was carefully studied, and robust security measures have been employed to address the root causes of this violence and promote peace and harmony in the affected areas and the State at large. 

5.  You will also recall that during the CP’s maiden media briefing, he made it categorically clear that he can not sit in the office and allow thugs (Yan Daba) to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere being enjoyed in the State. Also, effort is in progress in identifying and arresting the perpetrators of these criminal activities to face the full wrath of the law. It’s in fulfillment of these promises that the CP led targeted operations to the identified trouble spots within the affected areas during which a total of one hundred and forty-nine (149) suspects were arrested, out of which one hundred and six (106) are thugs and forty-three (43) for other major crimes and recovery of arms, dangerous weapons, large quantity of illicit drugs, motor vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, etc.

6.  Below is the summary of the achievements recorded from 24th June to 4th July, 2024, i.e. for ten (10) days as follows:

ARREST

(i) One Hundred and Six (106) Suspected Thugs

(ii) Twenty-Five (25) Armed Robbery Suspects

(iii) Two (2) Suspected Kidnappers

(iv) Three (3) Suspected Drug Dealers

(v) Three (3) Suspected Motor Vehicles Thieves

(vi) Two (2) Suspected Motorcycles Thieves

(vii) Eight (8) Suspected Thieves 

RECOVERY

(i) One (1) Pump-Action Rifle

(ii) Two (2) Motor Vehicles

(iii) Five (5) Tricycles

(iv) Eight (8) Motorcycles

(v) Fifty-Eight (58) Knives, Cutlasses and Pointed-Rods

(vi) Three (3) Bow and Arrows

(vii) Eighty Seven (87) Parcels of Dried Leaves Suspected to be Indian Hemp

(viii) One Hundred and Four (104) Packets and Nine Hundred and Forty-Four (944) Pieces of Red Sun Rubber Solutions

(ix) Thirty (30) Pieces of Diazepam Injection and Twenty-Six (26) Sachets of Diazepam Tablets

(x) One Thousand, Eight Hundred (1800) Pieces of Exol Tablets

(xi) One Hundred and Five (105) Pieces of Fortune Injection

(xii) Twenty-Three (23) Mobile Phones

(xiii) Thirteen (13) Cartons of Indomie Noodles

(xiv) Twelve (12) Solar Batteries 

(xv) Two (2) Gas Cylinders.

(xvi) Sixty-Seven (67) Silver Rings

In addition to intensifying patrols in the affected areas, the Command has also deployed additional personnel and increased collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including community leaders, youth groups, and other security agencies, to gather intelligence and enhance response capabilities. This coordinated approach is essential to effectively combat the root causes of the violence and prevent future incidents from occurring.

8.  The Command will continue to conduct public awareness campaigns and sensitization through its public relations unit to educate people about the dangers of crimes as well as the importance of reporting any suspicious or criminal activities promptly to the nearest authority.

9.  Moving forward, the CP urge members of the public to remain vigilant and also encourage community involvement in our collective efforts to combat any emerging security threat and create a safe and more secure environment for all.

10.  The Kano police command remains resolute in its commitment to combating thuggery (Daba) and other criminal activities and will spare no effort in ensuring the safety and security of all Kano residents.

BELOW ARE THE DETAILS OF THE MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS RECORDED:

(i) ARREST OF TWO (2) ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS: 

On 26/06/2024 at about 08:40am, a report was received from a resident of Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Kano that on the same date at about 02:40am, one Abba Musa Sani, ’m’, and Hafizu Muhammad, ‘m’ all of Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Kano conspired with their gang members and attacked one Mustapha Khamisu, ‘m’ and Sunusi Sagiru, ‘m’ with dangerous weapons while they were sleeping in their House located at Rijiyar Lemo Quarters. As a result, the suspects inflicted injuries on Sunusi Sagiru and robbed them the following items; (1) Three Mobile Phones (2) One Wrist Watch, and (3) Hand Bag containing two ATM Cards and Money Sum of Five Thousand Naira (N5,000:00). On receipt of the report, team of detectives swung into action and arrested the suspects. The robbed items were recovered and the case will be charge to court upon completion of the investigation.

(ii) ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT: 

On 24/06/2024 at about 10:00pm, a report was received from one Aliyu Haruna, ’m’, of Kanawa Village in Dawakin Kudu LGA, Kano that he was attacked by one Iliyasu Umar and three others with dangerous weapons who robbed his Motorcycle Lifan along Kanawa Village to Mariri Quarters. On receipt of the report, a team of detectives was immediately drafted to the scene and arrested the gang leader; Iliyasu Umar. On the course of Investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and two robbed Motorcycles Lifan and Boxer were recovered from him. Suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

(iii) ARREST OF CAR THEFT SYNDICATE AND RECOVERY OF STOLEN MOTOR VEHICLE:

On 27/06/2024 at about 04:00pm, based on credible information received, a team of Police Operatives attached to Special Intervention Squad (SIS) arrested one Danladi Musa, aged 53 years old, ‘m’ of Azare LGA of Bauchi State along Gaya to Wudil Road, Kano who is a notorious receiver of stolen motor vehicles from armed robbery syndicate. During the course of investigation, the suspect led to the arrest of two other syndicate members; Aliyu Saleh, aged 39 years old, ‘m’ of Governor Road, Kaduna State and one Mamuda Hussain, aged 40 years old, ‘m’ of Sheka Quarters, Kano. The suspects confessed to series of car snatching in Kano State and environs. A Toyota, Carina II Ash in Color with Reg No: KZR556AA was recovered from them with investigation in progress.

(iv) ARREST OF TWO (2) MOTORCYCLE THIEVES AND RECOVERY OF TWO (2) STOLEN MOTORCYCLES:

On 27/06/2024 at about 1200pm, a report was received from a security guard of Bayero University Kano that three unknown persons stormed into the University premises and stole away a Motorcycle Motor-B Ash in Color with Reg No: RMG 356 QA which was parked at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science and run away. On receipt of the report, a team of detectives was immediately detailed to the scene and went after the suspects. After a hot chase, two of the suspects were arrested (1) Saleh Ya’u, aged 35 years old, ‘m’ of Hotoro Quarters and (2) Abdulazeez Alhassan, aged 28 years old, ‘m’ of Dorayi Quarters, Kano. During the course of the investigation, two stolen motorcycles were recovered from them with investigation in progress. 

(v) ARREST OF SUSPECTED DRUG DEALER AND RECOVERY OF 87 WRAPS OF DRIED LEAVES SUSPECTED TO BE INDIAN HEMP AND DNGEROUS WEAPONS:

On 01/07/2024 at about 11:00am, a team of surveillance patrol while on joint patrol with local vigilante, intercepted and arrested one Umar Yakubu, ‘m’ of Yankaba Quarters, Kano on reasonable suspicion. On spot search, a cutlass, sharp knife and eighty seven wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered in his possession. The case is under investigation.

(vi) ARREST OF TWO (2) SUSPECTED DRUD DEALERS:

On 02/07/2024 at about 0400am, a team of surveillance patrol while on intelligence-lead operation, intercepted and arrested one Chinedu Exeigbo, aged 51 years old, ‘m’ and Halilu Sha’aibu, aged 40 years old; ‘m’, all of Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano in possession of one hundred and four (104) packets and Nine hundred and forty-four (944) pieces of Red Sun Rubber Solutions. The suspects confessed to the crime with the investigation in progress.

(vii) ARREST OF TWO (2) SUSPECTS FOR SHOP BREAKING AND THEFT:

On 02/07/2024 at about 05:54am, a team of surveillance patrol while  on round-the-clock visibility patrol, responded to a distress call and intercepted a Tricycle with two occupants along Kofar Ruwa Quarters loaded with Thirteen (13) Cartons of Indomie, Two (2) Gas Cylinders and One Generator, red-yellow in Color. The two occupants one Halifa Yahaya ‘m’, of Gwammaja Quarters and Danlami, ‘m’, of Kurna Quarters were arrested. During the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to having broken into a shop and stole away the said properties. The owner of was identified and the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.

(viii) ARREST OF TWO (2) WANTED ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF PUMP ACTION RIFLE AND DANGEROUS WEAPONS:

Following the arrest of a notorious armed robbery suspect, Abdulrahimi Atiku ‘m’, A.K.A Bawan Allah of Andawa Village in Gezawa LGA, Kano and recovery from him one Pump Action, Man-hunt was launch on his syndicate members. Consequently, on 25/06/2024, sustained follow up coupled with intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of two other syndicate members, Abdullahi Isa, ‘m’, A.K.A Magaji Mangal and Tampol, ‘m’, all of Tsauni village in Gezawa LGA, Kano. Two sharp knives and Torch Light were recovered from them with the case under investigation.

(ix) ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS:

On 24/06/2024 at about 02:25pm, a team of surveillance patrol attached to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested one Ibrahim Sani, ‘m’, popularly known as Giwa, of Wake village, Birning Magaji LGA of Zamfara State. The suspect confessed to be a serial Kidnapper and have participated in series of kidnapping in Zamfara and neighboring states with deadly weapons. Investigation is in progress.

(x) ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER:

On 01/07/2024 at about 5:00pm, based on credible information, team of Anti-Kidnapping Squad led by SP Auwal Muhammad arrested one Tasiu Jamilu, aged 26 years old, ‘m’ of Misku village in Gezawa LGA, Kano. During investigation, the suspect confessed to having conspired with his syndicate members and attacked and kidnapped one Alhaji Sa’adu Balarabe, ‘m’ of Hotoro Quarters at his farm located in Warawa LGA, Kano on 28/05/2024 at about 7:00pm. They subsequently robbed his mobile phone and used it and demanded the ransom of Fifteen Million Naira (N15,000,000). The case is under investigation.

(xi) ARREST OF SYNDICATE OF PHONE SNATCHING:

On 03/07/2024 at about 10:00am, a team of surveillance patrol attached to special intervention squad (515) while acting on credible information from the members of the community, arrested the following suspects (1) Nasiru Garba, aged 27 year old, ‘m’, (2) Adamu Haruna, aged 27 years old, ‘m’, (3) Bashir Isah, aged 29 years old, ‘m’, (4) Mustapha Ahmed, aged 23 years old, ‘m’, (5) Sadiq Muhammad, aged 24 years old, ‘m’, (6) Sadiq Shehu, aged 19 years old, ‘m’, all of various addresses in Kano. The suspects confessed having using tricycle to carry their target and snatched their mobile phones. Two of their operational tricycle and four snatched mobile phones were recovered. The case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

(xii) ARREST OF TWO (2) SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS:

On 03/07/2024 at about 3:30pm, information received from good samaritan that some miscreants armed with dangerous weapons are robbing innocent people along Race Course Road in Nassarawa LGA, Kano. On receipt of the report, team of detectives were drafted to the scene and arrested three of the suspects, (1) Hussaini Auwal, aged 18 years old, ‘m’, of Gama Quarters and Hassan Abubakar, aged 21 years old, ‘m’, of Tudun Wada. Sixty-eight (68) silver rings were recovered from their possession which they confessed to have robbed from one Humaira Abubakar, ‘f’, of Rijiyar Lemo Quarters, Kano. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
