Abia Govt seeks Police, NSCDC’s support to control truck drivers’ menace in Osisioma

Abia State Commissioner for Transport, Sunny Onwuma, has solicited the support of the State Police Command and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) to restore sanity along the Osisioma axis of Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

The transport commissioner, who made the appeal when he visited the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie and Abia State Commandant of NSCDC, Usman Alfadari, lamented that two flanks of the Osisioma axis of Enugu-Port Harcourt road have been taken over by trucks packed by drivers offloading bags of products.

He noted that despite repeated directives from Abia State Government telling the drivers to park their trucks only on one side of the road or take their vehicles into their premises, they have continued to cause traffic congestion on the Osisioma section of d the road, thereby endangering the lives of Abia residents.

He made it clear that the administration of Governor Alex Otti is promoting trade and commerce but wants things done in orderly manner.

“If you are moving to Aba, you come to the Osisioma junction, you see trailers parked along the two sides of the road. You see people loading themselves. That place has no control.

“We need your assistance in terms of coming up with your men to help us control that place in order to prevent road accident”, Onwuma appealed to the Police Commissioner.

The CP and the NSCDC Commandant separately promised to support the state government in restoring sanity on the road.
