The Benue State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Friday received a high powered delegation from the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) the world largest humanitarian network on an advocacy Visit.
Mr Kiragu George, a Mapping and Data Visualization Officer from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Cross Crescent Societies who led the delegation opined that the mission of IFRC and it’s affiliate bodies like the Nigerian Red Cross Society is aimed at inspiring, encouraging, facilitating and promoting all forms of humanitarian activities in order to respond to both conflicts and other emergency situations around the globe.
He further stressed that the Nigerian Red Cross Society is guided by seven (7) fundamental principles, namely Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality in her operations
Mr Kiragu George Commended the NSCDC for her collaboration and partnership in the past years and emphasized that NRCS is paying this all important advocacy Visit to strengthen such collaboration and seek for more ways to harmonize and enhance effective coordination in areas of mutual interests, especially security advisory roles of the Corps.
Further more, the Mapping and Visualization Officer informed the State Commandant that his organization is currently conducting assessments on malnutrition in most crisis hit local government Areas in Benue State with a view to assisting the affected population with supplementary foods, particularly children.
State Commandant, Commandant of Corps BITRUS ALICE LARAI warmly welcomed the team and pledge the commitment of the NSCDC in forging robust cooperation in areas of mutual interests, especially providing security advisory and deployment of men in providing security protection during operations.
“Let me use this opportunity to warmly welcome you and your team to Benue State, the NSCDC as you all know is a product of humanitarian services and will continue to provide support to humanitarian organizations like yours”.
The State Commandant stressed that the Command is willing to work with humanitarian organizations like the Nigerian Red Cross Society to assist in the discharge of her responsibilities.
The Commandant however requested for partnership and collaboration in areas of training and retraining of personnel on Basic first application and other areas within the purview of the NRCS.
