AIR VICE MARSHAL ABUBAKAR ADAMU ASSUMES COMMAND AS NEW CHAIRMAN OF MILITARY PENSIONS BOARD

In a significant leadership transition aimed at deepening ongoing reforms in military pension administration, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Adamu officially assumed office as the Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB) on 1 July 2025. The handover marks a new chapter in the Board’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of retired military personnel and ensuring greater efficiency in pension management.

The ceremony, held at the MPB headquarters in Abuja, was symbolic of continuity, professionalism, and renewed vigour in service delivery to military retirees. AVM Adamu takes the helm with a wealth of experience, bringing to the Board decades of dedicated service in finance, administration, and defence policy.

Before his appointment, AVM Adamu held several critical command, instructional, and staff appointments across the Nigerian Air Force and wider defence architecture. His previous roles include Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Jaji, Deputy Director of Budget at the Defence Intelligence Agency, Principal Staff Officer Finance at the Air Warfare Centre, and Commander, 081 Pay and Accounting Group. He also served as Director of Finance at NAF Headquarters, Managing Director of the Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL), and most recently, as Group Managing Director of the NAFIL Group of Companies. He was also a Directing Staff at the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

A distinguished financial expert and seasoned administrator, AVM Adamu is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Nigeria (ICPAN), and the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants. His professionalism and integrity have earned him numerous honours, including the Forces Service Star (FSS), Meritorious Service Star (MSS), Distinguished Service Star (DSS), General Service Star (GSS), and the prestigious Pass Staff Course Dagger (psc).

With his deep institutional knowledge and financial acumen, AVM Adamu is widely expected to lead the Military Pensions Board into a new era of accountability, transparency, and service excellence. His assumption of office has been met with optimism across the military community, as stakeholders look forward to reforms that will prioritise timely pension payments, efficient record management, and improved engagement with military veterans.

As he takes on this crucial national assignment, AVM Adamu reaffirmed his resolve to serve with dedication and uphold the trust reposed in him by the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Federal Government.
