Sports Is Nigeria’s Goldmine, Says NSCDC FCT Commandant

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has emphasised the importance of deliberate investment in sports development within the Corps, describing sports as a “goldmine” for national pride and unity when properly harnessed.

Odumosu made the call during a courtesy visit by the acting Commandant of Sports, NSCDC National Headquarters, deputy Commandant of Corps (DCC) Oladipo Lawal, to his office at Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

He noted that the sports unit of the Corps has consistently brought accolades and recognition, with several officers proudly donning national colours in international competitions.

“It was a thing of pride for me, back in the day as the national public relations officer, seeing our athletes represent Nigeria.

Now that new talents are emerging, we must harness and support them to restore the Corps’ sporting glory,” he said.

The FCT Commandant urged the acting Commandant of Sports to prioritise service, remain passionate, and learn from the experiences of past leaders.

“Be proactive and success-driven. Your passion is key to your success. I will give my full support, especially in providing the needed security for your sporting events,” he pledged.

In his response, DCC Lawal commended Commandant Odumosu’s long-standing commitment to sports, describing him as a “Commandant of Commandants,” and reaffirmed his dedication to elevating the NSCDC sports unit to greater heights.
