{"id":5109,"date":"2025-02-07T17:11:22","date_gmt":"2025-02-07T17:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/psmnigeria.org\/?p=5109"},"modified":"2025-02-07T17:16:22","modified_gmt":"2025-02-07T17:16:22","slug":"bolt-drivers-death-count-us-out-nscdc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psmnigeria.org\/?p=5109","title":{"rendered":"Bolt Driver\u2019s Death: Count Us Out &#8211; NSCDC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo Command, has denied any involvement of its officers in the death of a Bolt driver in Benin on Tuesday. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A statement signed by the Spokesman for the Command, SC Ogbebor Efosa, described the reports as outright falsehoods and figments of the imagination of its purveyors.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SC Ogbebor Efosa disclosed to journalists on Friday in Benin that its officials were merely helping the police in their investigation. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Efosa said a preliminary investigation by the corps at the command level showed that the officers were not responsible for the driver\u2019s death.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cOur boys did not kill anybody. The case is before the police, and we cannot be a judge in our own case,\u201d Efosa said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cThe incident occurred when a Bolt driver had a verbal altercation with a customer at a hotel, which degenerated into a physical fight.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The driver, who was allegedly beaten by the customer and his friends, later died,\u201d he said. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Efosa explained that the NSCDC officers on duty at the hotel intervened and restored order, but did not harm the driver.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWe have sent our boys to the police to give them the necessary information that they needed. We are cooperating fully with the police investigation,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The NSCDC spokesperson denied the report that the corps officers were arrested, adding that they presented themselves to the police to assist in the investigation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>He said the NSCDC would not condone any act of indiscipline or illegality, and that anyone found guilty of wrongdoing would face the consequences.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cAfter the investigation has been concluded, we will know who and who went wrong. We are not going to back anybody or support anybody for any illegality. Whoever has broken the law will face the wrath of the law.
