The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, Commandant Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, has called for stronger partnerships, effective intelligence sharing and increased collaboration between financial institutions and security agencies to address emerging threats in the financial sector. Ibiloye stressed that no institution, irrespective of its financial strength, technological capacity or security infrastructure, could effectively protect itself against evolving security threats without sustained cooperation with relevant security agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He made the call while speaking at the 19th Annual Retreat for Heads of Security of Banks and Other Financial Institutions, organised by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) at Park Inn by Radisson Blu Hotel, Abeokuta, Ogun State.Addressing security professionals and other stakeholders, the NSCDC commandant maintained that effective collaboration between private financial institutions and public security agencies remained critical to building a resilient security architecture. He explained that intelligence-sharing platforms would enable financial institutions to exchange information on emerging threats promptly, while stronger partnerships with law enforcement agencies would facilitate the early detection and prevention of fraudulent activities, financial crimes and other security breaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ibiloye also identified human capital development as a critical component of financial sector security, warning that insider threats, human errors and social engineering remained major vulnerabilities despite advances in security technology and physical protection systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, financial institutions must prioritise thorough personnel screening, continuous professional training, effective internal reporting mechanisms and ethical leadership to minimise security breaches. He emphasised that technological investments alone could not guarantee adequate protection without disciplined and security-conscious personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He therefore urged financial institutions to embrace a comprehensive security strategy that combines modern technology, intelligence gathering, personnel development and sustained engagement with relevant security agencies. Other prominent speakers at the retreat included retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Aboyade-Cole Bababunmi, Chairman, Committee of Heads of Security of Banks and Other Financial Institutions; Akin Morakinyo, ACIB, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of CIBN; Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olorundare Jimoh of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2; Buduka Johnson, Managing Director, EPSS Private Security Services; and Dele Alabi, FCIB, President and Chairman of Council of CIBN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The annual retreat provided an important platform for financial sector security experts, banking executives and law enforcement representatives to examine emerging security challenges, exchange professional experiences and develop practical strategies for protecting financial institutions, personnel and critical assets against criminal threats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
