The Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant of Corps ACC John Onoja Attah, has attributed the successes recorded in the campaign against illegal mining to a strict adherence to professionalism, integrity and the unwavering support of the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking during a media briefing presided over by the minister in Abuja last Friday, Onoja said the Mining Marshals had collectively resolved not to compromise established standards in the discharge of their duties. According to him, the operational philosophy of the special unit is anchored on discipline, accountability and strict compliance with the law, regardless of external pressures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have resolved in strong terms not to compromise our standards. Our values determine our direction, and that explains our synergy with the Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake,\u201d Onoja stated. He noted that the minister’s commitment to enforcing mining regulations without fear or favour has provided a clear example for operatives engaged in the battle against illegal mining across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The commander commended Alake for what he described as a firm and principled leadership style, stressing that the minister consistently ensures that the provisions of the law prevail at all times. He said such a stance has inspired the Mining Marshals to remain focused on their mandate of protecting the nation’s mineral resources and dismantling criminal networks operating within the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Onoja further explained that the determination of the Mining Marshals to uphold legal standards has contributed significantly to ongoing efforts to sanitise Nigeria’s solid minerals industry. Since the establishment of the special enforcement unit, authorities have intensified crackdowns on illegal mining operations, leading to numerous arrests, prosecutions and the disruption of illicit mineral extraction activities in several states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, the minister has continued to serve as a role model and moral compass for officers and men of the Mining Marshals. He described Alake’s leadership as a major motivating factor behind the unit’s resilience and operational successes, adding that the campaign against illegal mining requires courageous leadership and unwavering commitment to due process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NSCDC officer expressed confidence that sustained collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the Mining Marshals would further strengthen efforts to restore order, boost investor confidence and safeguard Nigeria’s vast mineral resources.
