Since assuming office on September 18, 2025, Commandant Brah has pursued an ambitious agenda aimed at strengthening security architecture, enhancing personnel capacity, expanding operational reach and restoring public confidence in the Corps. Within twelve months, the Nasarawa State Command has witnessed significant transformation across virtually every aspect of its operations, making it one of the most active and visible security formations in the state.

One of the earliest indicators of his proactive leadership emerged barely two weeks after assumption of office when he organized the training of more than 250 Agro Rangers and Crack Squad operatives at the College of Agriculture Science and Technology, Lafia. The training equipped personnel with modern operational skills in intelligence gathering, rural security management, conflict resolution and rapid response tactics. The initiative reinforced the Command’s readiness to address emerging security threats while improving professionalism among frontline officers.

Under Commandant Brah’s leadership, the physical expansion of the Corps has recorded remarkable progress. New outposts were established in strategic locations, including Tudu Uku and Nakuse, while the Tudun Amba Outpost was upgraded into a full-fledged division. A three-bedroom operational facility was constructed and roofed at Madagwa Hausawa, while office accommodation was secured for the Mararaba Area Command at the Sani Abacha Bus Terminal. Additional infrastructure projects, including the construction and upgrading of divisional offices in Luvu Madaki, Aso, Jenkwe and Angwa Atashi, have substantially improved the operational footprint of the Corps across the state.

Perhaps the most celebrated achievement of the Commandant’s first year was the decisive crackdown on kidnapping and violent crimes. Before his arrival, residents of Lafia and surrounding communities lived under the constant fear of abductions and criminal attacks. Within weeks of assuming office, NSCDC operatives neutralized two notorious kidnappers and arrested two others who had been terrorizing residents. During the operation, one AK-47 rifle and forty rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered. The operation marked a turning point in the state’s security landscape and contributed significantly to restoring public confidence and stability.

The Command’s operational successes extended beyond anti-kidnapping efforts. In March 2026, NSCDC operatives arrested two suspects for illegal possession of firearms in Obi Local Government Area. The swift action demonstrated the Command’s determination to prevent the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, a major contributor to violent crimes and communal conflicts across the country.

The war against vandalism also recorded significant milestones. In April 2026, the Command arrested five notorious railway vandals involved in the destruction and theft of critical railway infrastructure. The suspects were apprehended alongside thirty-three cut rail tracks, eleven joint bars, two gas cylinders and several other tools used in carrying out their illegal activities. Barely a week later, another operation led to the arrest of two additional railway vandals caught in the act following credible intelligence. These arrests helped protect critical national assets and prevented further economic losses.

Another notable breakthrough came in January 2026 when the Command arrested three suspects for impersonating military and police personnel. The suspects were found in possession of complete sets of military and police uniforms and reportedly confessed to involvement in motorcycle theft operations. The successful operation disrupted a criminal network that exploited security uniforms to deceive unsuspecting members of the public and commit crimes.

Infrastructure development remained a major hallmark of the Commandant’s administration. A major milestone was recorded with the commissioning of the Madagwa Hausawa Divisional Office, constructed by the Nasarawa State Government under Governor Abdullahi Sule. The facility significantly enhanced security presence within the area and reflected the growing partnership between the NSCDC and the state government. The commissioning ceremony attracted key stakeholders, traditional rulers and other security agencies, all of whom commended the initiative.

Recognizing that effective security depends on a well-trained workforce, Commandant Brah invested heavily in continuous training and retraining programmes. Personnel benefited from workshops and capacity-building sessions covering intelligence and investigation, peace and conflict resolution, anti-vandal operations, arms handling, disaster management and administrative leadership. These interventions strengthened the professionalism, competence and operational effectiveness of officers across the Command.

His administration also made notable progress in logistics and operational support. Through strategic engagement with the NSCDC National Headquarters, the Command acquired additional arms and ammunition to strengthen operational readiness. The deployment of drones and other technological tools further enhanced surveillance, intelligence gathering and crime prevention efforts. These innovations placed the Command among the leading adopters of technology-driven security operations within the Corps.

Beyond operational achievements, Commandant Brah embarked on an extensive modernization programme at the State Headquarters. Office buildings were renovated and repainted in the official NSCDC colours, while the Command’s perimeter fence received a facelift. The Command’s borehole was rehabilitated to improve water supply and sanitation, while a new transformer secured from the state government guaranteed a more reliable electricity supply. A power generating set was also procured to ensure uninterrupted operations.

One of the most remarkable transformations under his watch occurred in the area of mobility and logistics. Prior to his appointment, the Command reportedly had only two functional operational vehicles, with the majority grounded due to mechanical faults. Through deliberate investment in maintenance and rehabilitation, more than twenty-one vehicles are now fully operational across the state. This achievement has significantly enhanced patrol coverage, emergency response capability and overall operational efficiency.

Equally important has been his commitment to inter-agency collaboration. Understanding that modern security challenges require collective responses, Commandant Brah prioritized strategic partnerships with the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigerian Immigration Service, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Forest Guards, vigilante groups and other stakeholders. These collaborations have improved intelligence sharing, coordinated operations and strengthened collective responses to security threats.

His engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders has also yielded substantial dividends. By leveraging the influence and local knowledge of traditional institutions, the Command has improved grassroots intelligence gathering, conflict prevention and community participation in security management. This people-centred approach has strengthened trust between security agencies and local communities across Nasarawa State.

The impact of these achievements has not gone unnoticed. Commandant Brah Samson Umoru has received several recognitions for his leadership and service. Among them are the People’s Security Monitor Exemplary Leadership and Outstanding Security Management Award, the Award of Excellence from the Lafia Bankers Committee and the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, as well as the Ambassador of Ethics and Conscience Award presented by the Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation (CESVO). These honours reflect widespread appreciation for his commitment to professionalism, integrity and effective security management.

As Commandant Brah Samson Umoru marks one year in office, the evidence of progress is visible across the length and breadth of Nasarawa State. From infrastructure development and personnel training to crime reduction, operational expansion and stakeholder engagement, his administration has delivered measurable results that have strengthened the NSCDC’s capacity to protect lives and property. The first twelve months have laid a solid foundation for even greater accomplishments, cementing his place among the most impactful State Commandants in the history of the NSCDC Nasarawa State Command.

Special Report By lsiaka Mustapha, Editor-in-Chief, People’s Security Monitor In the annals of the Nigeria Security and Civil
