Ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo, has directed officers and men of the Corps to remain apolitical, uphold strict neutrality, and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism throughout the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sotiyo gave the directive during a strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Tactical Commanders held on Sunday at the State Command Headquarters in Osogbo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commandant disclosed that the NSCDC Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, had approved the deployment of 10,000 personnel for election security duties across Osun State. He noted that the deployment underscores the Corps\u2019 commitment to ensuring a peaceful, credible, and violence-free election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, the conduct of personnel during the election will significantly influence public confidence in the Corps and the overall credibility of the security architecture put in place for the exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He warned officers against any action capable of compromising the integrity of the NSCDC or undermining the peaceful conduct of the election, stressing that misconduct would not be tolerated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI urge all personnel to avoid any act that could bring the Corps into disrepute. Remain apolitical, maintain neutrality, respect the fundamental rights of citizens, and perform your duties strictly in accordance with the Corps\u2019 Standard Operating Procedures and all relevant laws governing election security operations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sotiyo further directed Area Commanders to ensure proper supervision of personnel under their jurisdictions, emphasizing discipline, professionalism, and responsiveness to emerging security challenges before, during, and after the poll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He reiterated that the NSCDC remains a professional and non-partisan security agency entrusted with the protection of lives and property, critical national assets and infrastructure, and the maintenance of peace and public order across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commandant also urged officers to treat voters with courtesy and respect, noting that elections are constitutional processes through which citizens exercise their democratic rights. He stressed that the role of security agencies is to provide a safe and conducive environment free from intimidation, harassment, or interference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Assuring residents of Osun State of adequate security coverage, Sotiyo said the NSCDC would continue to work closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to guarantee a peaceful and secure electoral environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He charged Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Tactical Commanders to provide effective leadership, properly brief personnel on operational guidelines, and maintain seamless communication throughout the election period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reaffirming the command\u2019s readiness for the assignment, Sotiyo stated that the Osun State Command remains fully prepared to carry out its constitutional responsibilities professionally and impartially, adding that the Corps would not compromise its neutrality under any circumstance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also called on members of the public to cooperate with security agencies and promptly report suspicious movements, threats, or activities capable of disrupting the electoral process, assuring residents that the command would remain vigilant before, during, and after the election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
