President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a significant salary increase for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, with pay rises ranging from 30 to 80 per cent across various ranks as part of efforts to enhance troop welfare and strengthen national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new salary structure, which will take effect from September 1, 2026, is expected to benefit approximately 250,000 military personnel across the Army, Navy, and Air Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the revised package, officers above the rank of Colonel, including Brigadier Generals, Major Generals, Lieutenant Generals, and Generals, will receive a 30 per cent salary increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officers and personnel from the rank of Colonel down to Warrant Officer will enjoy a 50 per cent increase in their salaries, while personnel from Private to Staff Sergeant ranks will receive an 80 per cent salary boost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The salary review will raise the annual wage bill for members of the Armed Forces from N660 billion to N924 billion, reflecting the Federal Government\u2019s commitment to improving the welfare and morale of military personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Tinubu said the decision was in recognition of the sacrifices, patriotism, and dedication demonstrated by members of the Armed Forces in confronting terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, and other security challenges across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe men and women who help to keep us safe in our homes must be supported and appreciated for the invaluable services they render to our nation,\u201d the President stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He reaffirmed his administration\u2019s commitment to prioritising the welfare of military personnel while continuing efforts to modernise the Armed Forces through the provision of advanced weapons systems, improved operational equipment, and cutting-edge technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the President, security remains the foundation for national development and economic prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo nation can attain greatness without a secure environment. Our administration remains steadfast in mobilising all military and law enforcement assets required to eliminate security threats and safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Tinubu urged military personnel to view the salary increase as a demonstration of the nation\u2019s appreciation for their sacrifices and commitment to duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI urge our servicemen and women to take this gesture as a sign of our deep appreciation for their service to our fatherland. Together, we shall overcome those who seek to undermine our peace, unity, and national progress,\u201d the President added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
