The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has secured the conviction of four individuals for conspiracy and tampering with oil pipelines.
The convicts, identified as Sylvania Elvis, Peter Ojichini, Bala Idris Adey, and Joel Bala Emmanuel, were prosecuted before the Federal High Court, Asaba, presided over by Justice Olubanjo.
The suspects were arrested and investigated by intelligence officers of the NSCDC Delta State Command for their involvement in illegal activities related to oil pipeline vandalism.
After reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution, the court found the defendants guilty, having established that the essential elements of the offences charged were proved beyond reasonable doubt.
Consequently, Justice Olubanjo convicted and sentenced the four offenders to various terms of imprisonment on the counts preferred against them.
Reacting to the judgment, the State Commandant, Chinedu F. Igbo, warned individuals engaged in criminal activities to embrace legitimate means of livelihood and take advantage of available empowerment opportunities rather than engage in acts that undermine the nation’s economy.
The Commandant reiterated the commitment of the NSCDC Delta State Command to the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, particularly oil and gas facilities, stressing that the Corps will continue to pursue and prosecute economic saboteurs in accordance with the law.
