The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osun State has arraigned an 88 year old man, Adepoju, before a Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo over allegations of conspiracy, forgery of land documents, false declaration and threat to life in Idominasi community of the state.
The State Commandant of the Corps, Igbalawole Sotiyo, disclosed that a detailed investigation carried out by the command revealed that the suspect allegedly sold one acre of land to a buyer who later discovered that the documents used for the transaction were not genuine.
According to the commandant, the buyer reportedly paid additional money to the suspect in an attempt to authenticate the ownership of the land after doubts arose about the legitimacy of the documents presented for the sale.
Further findings from the investigation also showed that the suspect allegedly does not possess valid documentation to support ownership of his own residential property located in Idominasi town in Osun State.
Commandant Sotiyo added that the investigation also revealed that the suspect allegedly caused disturbances in the community and threatened members of the public with dangerous weapons, thereby creating tension among residents.
While giving his statement to investigators, the suspect claimed that he is a chief in Idominasi and that he had been granted power of attorney to sell the land. He, however, explained that the issue may have arisen because he mistakenly encroached on the land in question.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on Friday, 6 March 2026.
The presiding magistrate, Chief Magistrate Ayilara, held that the alleged offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 9(1) of the Osun State Forceful Entry and Illegal Occupation of Landed Property Prohibition Law of 2019.
The suspect, who was arraigned on a two count charge, pleaded not guilty to the allegations and was subsequently remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Ilesa pending trial.
