Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 13 Brigade have successfully repelled an ambush by suspected armed criminals while responding to a communal dispute in Odonget Community in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The incident occurred on 12 March 2026 when troops deployed at Ochon and Alesi received credible intelligence indicating rising tension in the community following a communal disagreement. Acting swiftly on the information, the soldiers mobilised to the area and carried out security patrols to prevent the situation from escalating into violence.
According to security sources, the troops conducted a show of force in the affected communities in order to calm frayed nerves and reassure residents of their safety. The prompt intervention by the soldiers helped to reduce tension and restore relative calm in the area.
However, while the troops were returning from the operation, they encountered a deliberate roadblock mounted by suspected armed criminals who launched a coordinated ambush on them. The attackers reportedly opened fire in an attempt to disrupt the troops and cause casualties.
Reinforcements from the 245 Battalion were immediately deployed to support the troops, with armoured vehicles providing additional cover during the operation. The soldiers successfully repelled the attackers and neutralised four of the assailants during the exchange.
One soldier sustained injuries during the encounter and is currently receiving medical treatment. Security authorities have since imposed a curfew in the affected area as part of efforts to maintain order, while the Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring lasting peace in Cross River State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
