The Federal Fire Service in Taraba State has successfully contained a fire outbreak in Jalingo, preventing the destruction of properties valued at about \u20a610 million.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 9, 2026, at about 2:08 p.m. at Baba Ya\u2019u CBN Bypass area of Jalingo, the state capital. Officials said the fire affected a three-bedroom residential building belonging to Alhaji ASK Mai Tulare.
According to the Acting State Controller of the Federal Fire Service in Taraba, ACF Yakubu Samson Dungus, the blaze was triggered by bush burning in the surrounding area, which spread into the compound of the building.
The situation was promptly brought under control following a distress call received from ASFII Nurudeen Usman, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters led by ASFII Solomon Bello.
On arrival at the scene, the firefighting team conducted a rapid assessment and commenced an aggressive suppression operation. The crew deployed one medium jet of water from Fire Appliance FFS 206, operated by Fire Assistant Auwal Muhammad, to contain the blaze.
Officials said the quick intervention by the firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to nearby buildings, thereby saving property worth an estimated \u20a610 million.
No casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident, while residents of the area commended the firefighters for their swift response and professionalism.
The firefighting team successfully concluded the operation and returned to the station at about 3:44 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Acting State Controller urged residents to take proactive fire safety measures by installing basic firefighting equipment in homes and business premises, noting that early response tools can help control fires before the arrival of emergency services.
