President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday assured Nigerians and members of the Armed Forces that the country would overcome its security challenges, stressing that the sacrifices made by servicemen and women would not be in vain.
The President gave the assurance during an interfaith breaking of fast with members of the Armed Forces at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration\u2019s commitment to the welfare of military personnel, particularly those serving on the frontlines of the nation\u2019s security operations.
He commended the courage, professionalism and dedication of the troops who continue to risk their lives in defence of the country.
\u201cI thank all of you on behalf of a grateful nation. Many times you are away from your families and facing attacks from bandits and terrorists. I commend your courage, sacrifice and professionalism as you put your lives on the line in defence of Nigeria\u2019s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens,\u201d the President said.
Tinubu noted that the sustained efforts of the security forces had continued to weaken the operations of terrorist groups and bandits across different parts of the country.
\u201cYou have been working tirelessly to serve the country and protect our sovereignty. This nation will always be grateful to you, and I assure you that your sacrifices will not be in vain,\u201d he added.
The President also assured the Armed Forces of continued government investment in modern equipment, intelligence and logistics to strengthen their operational effectiveness.
He further thanked Nigerians for their patience and resilience amid ongoing economic reforms, saying the country was beginning to emerge from difficult times.
\u201cI am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and those of other Nigerians are not in vain. We are now coming out of the dark tunnel,\u201d Tinubu stated.
The President also extended his sympathy to the government and people of Borno State over the recent terrorist attack in the state.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Oluwafemi Oluyode, represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, expressed appreciation to the President for several approvals aimed at improving the welfare and operational capacity of the Armed Forces.
He noted that the approvals included an upward review of salaries for members of the Armed Forces, an increase in allowances for personnel of the Brigade of Guards, as well as improved funding for equipment procurement and the provision of decent accommodation for military personnel.
According to him, the initiatives would significantly enhance the operational efficiency of the Armed Forces and had been well received by officers and men across the services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
