The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, has reaffirmed the Command\u2019s dedication to protecting residents in celebration of International Civil Defence Day 2026.
Mr Keshinro stated that additional officers and personnel had been deployed across Lagos State to strengthen community safety and security. He noted that International Civil Defence Day is a globally recognised annual event observed by the International Civil Defence Organisation to promote awareness of civil defence strategies for safeguarding lives and property.
Following the directive of the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Lagos State Command commemorated the day with speeches and activities reflecting this year\u2019s theme, \u201cTowards a Safer Society.\u201d The activities were designed to highlight the importance of protecting lives and property, disaster preparedness, and proactive civil defence measures.
In his address on Friday, the Lagos State Commandant emphasized the need to educate officers, personnel, and journalists on civil defence strategies, including safety planning, statistical analysis, and globally accepted best practices for disaster management. The Command focused on accident prevention, property protection, and mitigation of disaster impacts as key areas of awareness for personnel.
Guest Lecturer, Professor Adedeji Oyenuga, PhD, DFCCS, praised the NSCDC\u2019s proactive engagement in community safety, disaster readiness, and environmental protection. He highlighted the Corps\u2019 achievements in preventing kidnappings, combating illegal mining and refineries, and safeguarding critical infrastructure. Professor Oyenuga noted that the emphasis on humanitarian service and environmental responsibility aligns the NSCDC with international best practices, positioning it as a model for civil defence organisations globally.
The event attracted guests from diverse sectors and clearly demonstrated that International Civil Defence Day continues to raise awareness, educate NSCDC personnel, and inform the general public on the critical role of the Corps in maintaining a safe and secure society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
