The Nigeria Police Force confirmed a comprehensive deployment of personnel and resources across Abuja to maintain order before, during, and after the polls. The operation is designed to prevent security breaches, voter intimidation, and any disruption that could undermine the credibility of the elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the measures, vehicular and pedestrian movement will be restricted from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day. However, the directive exempts essential service providers, accredited electoral officials, medical emergency teams, and other critical responders who will be allowed to carry out their duties without hindrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police authorities have appealed to residents of the FCT to comply fully with the temporary restrictions and cooperate with security operatives deployed across strategic locations. Citizens have also been encouraged to report suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The security arrangement involves coordinated efforts among key agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Miller Dantawaye, has directed officers to remain professional, neutral, and vigilant throughout the exercise. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has approved candidates from 17 political parties to contest a total of 68 elective positions. The seats comprise six chairmanship positions and 62 councillorship roles spread across the six area councils of the FCT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Electoral officials disclosed that approximately 1.68 million registered voters are expected to participate in the elections.
