The newly deployed Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Bala Bawa Bodinga, has introduced fresh security measures aimed at strengthening the protection of lives, property, and critical national assets across the state.
Speaking with journalists at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Ilorin, Bodinga disclosed that his deployment followed directives from the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who mandated him to take charge of the state command and consolidate existing security structures.
The Commandant stated that since assuming office, he has intensified surveillance operations, particularly within Ilorin metropolis, assuring residents of improved security presence, especially at night.
\u201cFrom the day I assumed office, operations have continued without interruption. Our personnel are on 24-hour surveillance across Ilorin and other strategic locations,\u201d he said.
He further revealed that additional operatives have been deployed to Kiama following recent security concerns in the area, assuring residents that the situation remains under control.
\u201cIn view of recent developments in Kiama, we have reinforced the area with more personnel. The security architecture there has been strengthened,\u201d he added.
Bodinga also announced the expansion of security coverage to places of worship across the state. He stated that adequate security would be provided during Friday Jumu\u2019ah prayers in mosques and Sunday services in churches, as well as during major religious gatherings.
\u201cAll Friday Jumu\u2019ah prayers across the state will receive security coverage. The same applies to churches on Sundays and during any major religious events,\u201d he said.
On inter-agency collaboration, the Commandant emphasised the importance of strengthening synergy with other security agencies in the state to enhance intelligence gathering and proactive operations.
\u201cI am already in contact with all service commanders in the state. The synergy is active and will be further strengthened. We will share intelligence and operational strategies to ensure adequate security across Kwara,\u201d he stated.
Addressing modern security strategies, including training, retraining, equipment provision, and intelligence upgrades, Bodinga assured that capacity building remains a top priority.
\u201cI am an intelligence officer by training and also an instructor. Training and retraining of personnel is continuous. While some aspects of our operations cannot be made public, our officers will be technically and professionally equipped for effective service delivery,\u201d he explained.
He disclosed that he has commenced internal strategic meetings with officers to refine operational plans and enhance professional knowledge within the Command.
\u201cGive us some time and you will see a new face of security in Kwara State. We are committed to delivering the best for the state and the nation,\u201d he said.
On VIP protection, Bodinga noted that necessary modalities have been activated to respond promptly to requests, adding that he recently participated in specialised VIP security training alongside other senior officers.
\u201cAll necessary arrangements for VIP protection are in place. We are prepared to respond to requests as they arise,\u201d he assured.
The Commandant, who hails from Bodinga in Sokoto State and has served in various operational capacities across Jigawa, Kano, and the Federal Capital Territory, reaffirmed that under his leadership, the NSCDC in Kwara will remain proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-focused.
