The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo State Command, has emerged champions of the 3rd Edition of the Kada Unity Cup, a prestigious football tournament organised by Lucky Igbinedion.
The tournament featured twelve teams drawn from various security and paramilitary agencies, all competing intensely from the group stages to the grand finale in the spirit of unity, discipline, and sportsmanship.
The NSCDC team demonstrated exceptional skill, resilience, and teamwork throughout the competition. In the semi-final match, the team secured a 2\u20131 victory over the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to book a place in the final.
The final match against the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) was highly competitive and entertaining. After regulation time ended in a 1\u20131 draw, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout. Showing remarkable composure and determination, NSCDC triumphed 5\u20134 on penalties to lift the coveted trophy.
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, who served as Chairman of the Tournament. In a celebratory moment, he presented the trophy to the NSCDC team and commended the players for their discipline, resilience, and outstanding performance throughout the competition.
The Edo State Commandant, Commandant Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, was present at the event to cheer and support the team. His presence significantly boosted the morale of the players and reflected the Command\u2019s commitment to staff welfare, unity, and excellence both on and off duty.
Speaking to journalists after the victory, the Commandant gave glory to Almighty God for the team\u2019s success. He also expressed deep appreciation to the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for his visionary leadership, unwavering support, and continued encouragement to Commands nationwide.
He noted that the enabling environment and institutional support provided by the Commandant General have inspired officers and men of the Corps to excel not only in their core mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure but also in activities that promote unity, teamwork, and physical fitness.
The Commandant dedicated the victory to the Commandant General in recognition of his steadfast commitment to the growth, welfare, and development of the Corps.
As champions of the tournament, the NSCDC team received a cash prize of Two Million Naira (\u20a62,000,000).
In addition, Thomas Ihikweme of NSCDC was named Best Player of the Tournament in recognition of his exceptional performance and significant contribution to the team\u2019s success.
