Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued a kidnap victim during ongoing clearance and search-and-rescue operations within their area of responsibility.
The rescue occurred on January 27, 2026, when soldiers deployed at Dogon Gawa in Taraba State sighted a man who had been abandoned in the bush by his abductors. The victim was subsequently identified as Mr Ghali.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr Ghali and another individual, Mr Simon Oluchukwu, were abducted on January 11, 2026, at Gbise Village, Mbayonga, in Benue State. Their driver was reportedly killed during the abduction.
Following his rescue, Mr Ghali was immediately debriefed and provided with medical attention before being reunited with his family.
Commenting on the operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their resilience, courage, and professionalism. He assured that military operations in the area would be intensified to secure the release of the remaining victim and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Brigade Commander also called on members of the public to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
The successful operation highlights the commitment of the Nigerian Army to protecting lives and property, as well as its determination to eliminate criminal activities and restore lasting peace across the region.
