In a strategic effort to reinforce national security and advance human capital development, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, led a high level delegation of senior officers on a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
The visit focused on discussions around a proposed Memorandum of Understanding aimed at creating a structured framework for interagency collaboration, particularly in training, capacity building for NSCDC institutions, and the protection of Nigeria\u2019s educational environment.
Addressing the meeting, the Commandant General traced the evolution of the NSCDC from its volunteer origins in 1967 to its present status as a professional, academically driven security agency. He noted that the Corps currently has over 40 PhD holders within its ranks, underscoring its commitment to intellectual growth and professional excellence.
\u201cThe NSCDC has evolved into a highly specialized and elite Corps. Our mandate is clear: we are the lead agency in the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, the safety of educational institutions, and the regulation of the mining sector,\u201d Prof. Audi stated.
He further expressed the Corps\u2019 readiness to partner with TETFund to upgrade its six training institutions, with particular emphasis on the College of Security Management in Abeokuta, to enhance career progression and ensure world class training for officers.
In his response, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, commended the President for appointing a visionary leader to head the NSCDC and acknowledged the critical but often understated role of the Corps in maintaining national stability.
\u201cSecurity is a fundamental pillar for the success of any educational intervention. We recognize the quiet and tireless efforts of the NSCDC in safeguarding the nation,\u201d Echono said.
He affirmed TETFund\u2019s commitment to supporting the Corps through the proposed MoU, noting that the partnership would include assistance in strengthening NSCDC training infrastructure as well as the provision of specialized security training for TETFund staff.
