The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has officially inaugurated its Performance Management System (PMS) Committee, a strategic move aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability, and measurable service delivery across the Service. The initiative was led by the Controller General of the FFS, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, as part of ongoing reforms to strengthen institutional performance and operational excellence.
The PMS initiative stems from the strategic directive of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to ensure effective performance tracking, monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and align the activities of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) under the Interior Ministry with national governance priorities.
Last year, the Controller General participated in the signing of the Performance Contract during the Mid-Tenure 2025 Sectoral Ministerial Performance Review Retreat in Suleja. At the retreat, heads of Interior MDAs committed to achieving measurable outcomes, a commitment later extended to Directors and Heads of Departments within the Service through institutional performance bonds signed during a PMS training hosted by the Nigerian Correctional Service.
Speaking at the inauguration at FFS Headquarters, CG Adeyemi highlighted that the PMS framework provides a structured platform for monitoring operational outputs, assessing productivity, and improving service delivery. Key focus areas include fire prevention, emergency response, capacity development, asset deployment, and public safety education.
He emphasised that the creation of the PMS Committee demonstrates the Service\u2019s commitment to fulfilling the Ministry of Interior\u2019s mandate and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s Renewed Hope Agenda, which champions results-based governance, public sector reforms, and enhanced citizen-focused service delivery.
CG Adeyemi urged committee members to adopt a diligent, transparent, and outcomes-driven approach in carrying out their responsibilities, noting that effective performance monitoring is essential for meeting institutional KPIs and delivering tangible value to Nigerians. \u201cThe expectations before us are clear. We must deepen the culture of accountability, measure what we do, and deliver on agreed KPIs in the interest of national safety and public confidence,\u201d he stated.
The PMS Committee is chaired by Deputy Controller General Achi Ijeoma Okidi, Head of the Planning, Research, and Statistics Department. Its responsibilities include coordinating the implementation of the PMS framework, developing internal KPIs for Directorates, strengthening cross-departmental reporting mechanisms, and liaising with the Ministry of Interior on performance reporting.
Performance management has become a cornerstone of global public sector reforms, and its integration within the Federal Fire Service signals a shift toward a modern, data-driven, and citizen-focused model.
