An internationally acclaimed Nigerian security expert, Dr Lekan Jackson Ojo has applauded the resignation of Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reacting to the Minister’s resignation, Dr Ojo declared that his exit from the federal cabinet is long overdue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He wondered why a country like Nigeria will have a dormant Minister of Defence while the country is facing spikes in insecurity nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He punctured that claim of the Minister that he resigned on health ground, insisting that he was booted out office by President Bola Tinubu for poor performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think it is a very good development that the Minister of Defence has resigned. I think it is even very late for him to have done this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For him to be saying he resigned on health ground is a fallacy, it is a lie. I think Mr President booted him out and that should be a signal to other Ministers that are not performing well in this administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“How can somebody be Minister of Defence and you are not addressing the country, you are not anything. I think it is high time he should go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also called for the resignation of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle for his poor response to security challenges in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think Matawalle should also follow immediately, that is the Minister of State for Defence. These two persons are not relevant, they ran their states aground as governors.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Jackson Ojo also called on President Tinubu to appraise members of his Cabinet and sack those that are not performing optimally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They came to the federal level and were honoured with positions of Minister of Defence and Minister of State. What has been their contributions to the administration? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Minister of Defence is gone and I think Matawalle should follow. If Mr President should continue like this there are lots of others we will suggest he should fire them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He should bring in technocrats into his cabinet and not politicians. Congratulations to Nigerians that one is gone and more will still follow.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
