The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service has announced that it rescued 69 persons and saved property worth \u20a614,466,915,000 from various fire incidents recorded between January and September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was disclosed in a Fire and Rescue Statistics Report made available by the Service\u2019s spokesperson, Ibrahim Mohammad, on Wednesday in Abuja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mohammad revealed that despite the Service\u2019s swift response and successful rescue operations, 18 lives and property valued at \u20a66,072,214,500 were unfortunately lost during the same period. He said the figures reflect the increasing frequency of fire emergencies within the territory and underscore the Service\u2019s commitment to effective response and prevention measures across the six area councils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the report, the Service conducted several life-saving operations during the nine-month period. March recorded the highest number of rescues with 30 people saved, followed by June with 22, April with 13, and July with four. No casualties were recorded in January, February, May, August, and September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, March and April were identified as the most tragic months, as ten and eight lives respectively were lost to fire outbreaks, while other months recorded no fatalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report further revealed that a total of 338 fire calls were received between January and September. February recorded the highest number with 64 incidents, followed by January with 59, April with 51, June with 35, March with 33, May with 31, July with 24, August with 21, and September with 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, the Service responded to nine rescue calls during the period, showcasing its readiness to handle other emergencies beyond fire incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mohammad reaffirmed the Service\u2019s dedication to reducing fire-related deaths and property losses through continuous public sensitisation, prompt response, and improved collaboration with other emergency agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also urged residents to adopt safety measures in their homes, workplaces, and public spaces, especially as the dry season approaches, a period often associated with increased fire risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The spokesperson added that the FCT Fire Service has intensified awareness campaigns on fire prevention, proper use of electrical appliances, and strict adherence to safety standards in residential and commercial areas to avert avoidable disasters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
