The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Lawal Faruq for allegedly setting his former girlfriend, Omolola Hassan, on fire after a disagreement at a military barracks in Ibadan, the state capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, the suspect allegedly poured petrol on the victim and ignited it during an altercation that stemmed from the breakdown of their relationship. Witnesses revealed that military personnel at the barracks quickly intervened, extinguished the flames, and rushed the victim to Yawiri Hospital, Akobo, for emergency treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the incident on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, stated that the suspect claimed he and the victim had taken an oath never to part ways. However, when the relationship failed, the suspect reportedly became enraged and resorted to the violent act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, said the case was under investigation. He noted that investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident adds to a growing number of violent attacks arising from failed romantic relationships across Nigeria. In recent months, several similar cases involving lovers setting each other ablaze or committing other acts of violence have been reported in various parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
