The Akwa Ibom State Government has convened a landmark power summit, bringing together key stakeholders to chart a course toward uninterrupted electricity supply across the state. The summit, held on Thursday, 18 September 2025, at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Ikot Ekpene, focused on the strategic role of Ibom Power, its capacity to drive industrial growth, the challenges confronting the sector, and measures to safeguard investments from vandalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Umo Eno, who hosted the summit, emphasized the state\u2019s determination to achieve self-sufficiency in power generation and distribution, extending the benefits not only to Akwa Ibom but also to neighboring states. He underscored the importance of collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), mandated to protect critical national infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event drew notable participants, including retired Air Vice Marshal Enebong Effiom of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Governors of Abia, Cross River, and Enugu States, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the NSCDC State Commandant. They commended the initiative and pledged their full support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the summit activities, dignitaries visited the Switchyard Power Transmission Station in Ikot Ekpene, where the NSCDC State Commandant joined discussions with station managers, youth leaders, and community representatives. Issues raised included poor electricity supply, unemployment, dilapidated roads, and lack of social amenities. AVM Effiom assured the host communities that their concerns would be addressed, urging residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NSCDC personnel were deployed to ensure tight security throughout the summit, which ended with a renewed commitment to partnerships that will strengthen the state\u2019s power sector and protect critical installations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
