Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) deployed at Ayilamo outpost responded swiftly to a distress call on 15 September 2025 following reports of suspected armed herders firing sporadically at Tse Anema village, Tombo Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area, Benue State. The troops mobilized to the scene, and while the suspects fled on sighting the advancing forces, patrols were immediately intensified to reassure residents and restore calm in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During follow-up clearance operations in Azege village within the same ward, the troops encountered two individuals allegedly stealing yams from a farmland. The suspects fled on sighting the soldiers, who continued pursuit into the nearby bush. In the process, another farmland with soybeans was found to have been destroyed by cattle. The troops sustained area patrols to prevent further damage and to ensure a safer environment for farmers to continue their activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a related development, at about 5:15 pm, troops of the Defence Special Operations Force (DSOF) deployed to Afia Market in Ukum LGA responded to intelligence reports of an armed robbery targeting traders. On arrival, the troops engaged the suspects, during which one was intercepted. An AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Force Commander, Joint Task Force OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their timely and professional actions. He emphasized the importance of recovering weapons after every encounter to prevent their use against innocent citizens.
