(NSCDC)<\/strong><br><strong>Ondo State Command<\/strong><br><strong>Akure, Ondo State | 3rd September, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command<\/strong>, in collaboration with the <strong>Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC)<\/strong>, has arrested several bookshop owners involved in the sale of <strong>pirated books<\/strong> to unsuspecting members of the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The coordinated anti-piracy operation was conducted across <strong>Akure (Ondo State)<\/strong> and <strong>Ado Ekiti (Ekiti State)<\/strong> in accordance with <strong>Section 44(2) of the Copyright Act<\/strong>, which prohibits:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The sale of infringing copies of copyrighted works<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Distribution of pirated materials for trade or commercial purposes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Possession of pirated works beyond private or domestic use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Violations of this law attract penalties including <strong>fines and imprisonment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking with journalists, <strong>Mrs. Oke Oluropo<\/strong>, the State Coordinator for the NCC covering Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ogun, and Ekiti States, praised the NSCDC for its professionalism and operational support during the exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis operation was a huge success due to the commitment and professionalism of NSCDC officers in Ondo State,\u201d she stated. \u201cIt is a statutory responsibility of the Commission, and we have commenced inspections of schools and distribution outlets where copyrighted materials are being sold.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also speaking at the event, <strong>Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye<\/strong>, the Ondo State NSCDC Commandant, reaffirmed the Command\u2019s dedication to protecting intellectual property and ensuring a safe commercial environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe fight against piracy demands stronger collaboration,\u201d he said. \u201cTogether, we can protect intellectual property rights, support the creative industry, and shut the door against criminal elements exploiting the system.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The public\u2014including parents, guardians, school administrators, and booksellers\u2014is hereby <strong>advised to remain vigilant<\/strong> and <strong>report any suspected cases of piracy<\/strong> or sale of counterfeit educational materials to the appropriate authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This joint effort underscores the commitment of the NSCDC and NCC to <strong>safeguard the rights of content creators<\/strong> and maintain the integrity of Nigeria\u2019s educational and publishing systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator
