Troops of the 223 Light Battalion of the Nigerian Army, based in Zuru, have successfully repelled a large-scale attack by armed bandits on Ribah town in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reports indicate that the assault, which occurred on Wednesday, involved over 400 heavily armed bandits who attempted to overrun the town. A fierce gun battle ensued, during which many of the attackers were neutralised by the troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Director of Security in the Cabinet Office, Alhaji AbdulRahman Zagga, confirmed the incident in Birnin Kebbi and commended the Nigerian Army for its courage and professionalism in handling the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zagga noted that despite the initial threat posed by the sheer number of attackers, the superior combat tactics and resolve of the troops ultimately turned the tide in favor of the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also praised the timely intervention of the Nigerian Air Force, whose fighter jets provided critical air support by targeting and bombing fleeing bandits, inflicting significant casualties on the attackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAlthough the gunfire caused initial panic and confusion among residents, the situation has since been fully brought under control and normalcy restored,\u201d Zagga stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further revealed that the attackers are believed to be the same group behind a recent violent incident in Niger State. They had reportedly crossed into Kebbi to launch another assault, which was effectively foiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis outcome highlights the success of the proactive security strategies implemented by Governor Nasir Idris,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a related development, troops from Dukku Barracks on the same day repelled another attack by Lakurawa bandits in Mera, Augie Local Government Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
