The People’s Security Monitor (PSM) has honoured former acting Commandant General Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Hilary Kelechi Madu, with a distinguished national recognition in celebration of his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s internal security architecture.

The honour was conferred at the 2025 People’s Security Monitor Security Summit and Recognition Awards, held on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, at the Nigeria National Merit Award House, Maitama, Abuja. The event brought together top security chiefs, policymakers, civil society leaders, and stakeholders from across the country to reflect on security reforms and recognise outstanding leadership.

Madu received the Security Leadership Legacy Award, a special honour instituted by PSM to celebrate exceptional former security leaders whose reforms, integrity, and visionary leadership have left lasting institutional impact. The award specifically recognises lifetime achievements that continue to shape policy, operations, and professional standards within Nigeria’s security sector.

During his tenure as Commandant-General of the NSCDC, CG Madu was credited with far-reaching institutional reforms that strengthened the Corps’ operational capacity and national relevance. He prioritised professionalism, expanded the protection of critical national assets, enhanced personnel training, and deepened inter-agency collaboration, repositioning the NSCDC as a key player in community-based security and infrastructure protection.

In presenting the award, PSM noted that Madu’s leadership style combined discipline with innovation, enabling the Corps to respond effectively to emerging security threats while earning greater public trust. His reforms, the organisers stated, have remained a benchmark for effective leadership and continue to influence present-day operations within the NSCDC.

The organisers described the recognition as both a celebration of past service and a source of inspiration for the next generation of security leaders. They emphasised that Madu’s legacy exemplifies the values of dedication, resilience, and service to nationhood, which the Security Leadership Legacy Award was created to uphold.
